Easter Eggs 2012

Colors ready for dipping!

As kids we loved coloring eggs for Easter. Now that we are older, it is still just as fun. Having them done in time for Easter, however, doesn't matter all that much to us anymore. So as a "tradition" beginning last year, we go to the stores after Easter, and we buy the discounted coloring kits. There is always a handful of different types of kits. Neon, pastel, ones with stickers, "hair", etc. Being that it is after Easter, you can usually buy at least 2 kits for the price of one, so we usually pick up a few different ones. These are the results of our egg coloring. (2 eggs, sadly, were lost before we got to color them.)

This is Britt's chick.

I usually like to color a cracked egg if I can, and I turn it into some sort of dinosaur egg that is hatching.
The crack is on the back side.

This egg that Britt colored developed speckles on it's own.

Ok. So it is hard to line things up when you can't see where you color.  Also, if you hadn't  figured this out yet, once you color an egg, if you let it dry, and write on it with the clear crayon most cup kits come with, you can preserve that color, and change the rest of the color.

This one was dyed in one color, and one color only. Yet, clearly there is more that one color on it.

A slight mishap when handling it after color resulted in this one.

Britt's love egg.

The picture doesn't do it justice, but this is the rainbow egg that I made.

As a parting tip, in case you didn't know, you can use water, vinegar, or lemon juice for differing vibrancy in your colors when preparing the coloring cups. Water creates the palest color, lemon juice in the middle, and vinegar makes the most vibrant of the colors. You simply use three tablespoons of which ever of these liquids you choose to dissolve the color tablet, then you add 1/2 a cup of water (for all of them) to it, stir, and ta-da. You have a coloring cup ready to use.

Enjoy and remember, you can never color an egg wrong!
