You want to use pressure treated wood (1" x 6" x 8') for the sides and (1 5/8") exterior screws.
The first step is to cut boards so you get one 5' and one 3' out of each.
You only need to make one cut per piece.
Now 6" is a little shallow for a garden,
so you'll want to go two boards high making it 1' tall.
Use 1 1/2" pieces of wood for support in the corners and along the 5' sides.

Pre-drill holes on ends of wood for easy attachment.
Lay weed block under boxes.
Fill box with 15 cubic feet of 7 bags or 2 cubic feet of Miracle-Gro
Garden Soil (you can also mix bags with your own yard dirt).
Water completely and add seeds, or plants.
